Challenge #11 Gardens & Bugs

Today's challenge is from the fabulous JoAnn (sarahzoe on SCS):

June is all about ~Getting Buggy~. Since it’s the first bug challenge, I thought I’d do the obvious…gardens and bugs. One of the most beautiful things to see in my garden, early in the morning, is the sparkle of a dew kissed spider web. Nature at it’s finest. I tried to reflect the sparkle in my sample.

The challenge: to create a card combining flowers and bugs…that’s all. It’s an easy one for a Monday morning.

ONE MAN'S TRASH IS ANOTHER MAN'S TREASURE

We've all heard the phrase "one man's trash is another man's treasure". When I think of this phrase, I cannot help but think of my boyfriend Joe. Not that he is trash mind you...but because his ex-wife thought the "grass was greener" and threw away their 12 year marriage. While I feel bad that Joe was put in this situation, I am grateful for his ex's indiscretion and for creating the opportunity for Joe and I to meet. Her "trash" is now my "treasure".

My challenge for you today is to make a treasure out of trash. Start with a card you've already made...you know, one that you never really liked or one that was maybe missing something so it's in a scrap pile (I have a bunch of these cards). If you don't have an old card, use scraps and start from there. Now, re-work your trashy card, snazz it up, show it some love, give it attention...brownie points if you make it a thank you card. When you're finished, send this little treasure out to someone speical in your life.

RES-Q-Challenge #10

WELCOME to challenge #10!

Today's challenge is hosted by my soon to be 6 year old daughter, Gia! She LOVES to stamp and calls the RES-Q-Crew her "peeps." She came up with this challenge with a little nudge from Jean (Thanks Jean!).

Just in case you couldn't view the video, the challenge is to make a card with a type of food you can cut or slice. She chose a birthday cake since her birthday is on Monday. We will be partying all weekend and going to the Memorial Day carnival. Hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend!

Let's Talk Trash!

Sorry I'm posting this late y'all...the whole job thing gets in the way sometimes.
Anyway, I finally made it and today we're going to talk trash. Now, I'm not encouraging spreading rumors or lies about people, but let's talk trashy to make someone laugh or even raise a few eyebrows.
Your challenge today is to use a funny, humorous, twisted, off-color sentiment on your card. If you don't have any stamps that fit this category, you can combine a couple stamps to create a sentiment or just make one up on your own. Let's have fun and talk trash.

Here's my example:

recipe:
stamps: I Brake For Stamps
ink: Archival Jet Black, Kiwi Kiss, Watercolor Crayons
paper: Regal Rose, Kiwi Kiss, WW, SU! Raspberry Tart DSP
accessories: Dew Drops, Ribbon, Dimensionals, Liquid Applique, Stickles
Remember, there are no time limits, vendor restrictions or other rules for the challenge. It's only for fun and inspiration. Challenge #9 Honoring the Mower!

Today we would like to welcome our very first
GUEST HOSTESS!

HELEN (aka Lucy's MOM on SCS)

Here is Helen's challenge for today:

Two years ago DH bought a new riding lawn mower..pretty pricey I thought. But it has turned out to be a really good mower, making things a lot easier since we have a large area to mow. My CB is pretty much the same for my stamping..I was reluctant to put out a lot of money for folders and dies but now I use something created with them on just about every card.
For this challenge:

1. Use the color GREEN somewhere on your card
2. Use your most reliable, or your GO-TO tool (the one you couldn't live without!)
3. Make the card honoring the person who does the mowing (re: your hubby, son or even your gardener!)

Here is Helen's awesome sample!

Remember, there are no time limits, vendor restrictions or other rules for the challenge. It's only for fun and inspiration. POOR WHITE TRASH

Welcome to the second installment of Trashy Tuesday! This week, we're going to find our inner white trash.

Welcome to the second installment of Trashy Tuesday! This week, we're going to find

According to Wikipedia:

White trash is an American English pejorative term referring to individual or groups of lower social class white skinned people that the speaker considers to lack cultural capital. It is most frequently used as a slur to describe financially, economically or culturally disadvantaged Caucasians. The term white trash originated in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area during the 1820s post-revolutionary war reconstruction boom. (Who knew?) The term white trash first came into common use inthe 1830s as a pejorative used by upper class United States southerners of all races against financially disadvantaged caucasians.

Think back to when we first started stamping...we didn't have all the latest and greatest gadgets, embellishments, and accessories. I was always looking for ways to add some pizazz to my cards. For this week's challenge I want you to roll up your sleeves and find your inner white trash.

Your challenge is to make a card that must include a tattered piece of white cardstock as your background...for mine, I spritzed a piece with water and crumpled in into a ball and worked it until it was distressed to my liking. You can tear yours, crumple it, stomp on it, run it over with the car...as long as it's tattered somehow. There's also a catch...you cannot use any modern embellishments or tools (punches are ok but no added bling, rhinestones, cuttlebug/nesties, dewdrops, etc.); keep it simple...you're limited to using only image stamp and one sentiment.

Here's my "poor white trash" example:

recipe:
stamps: Impression Obsession, Rubber Soul
paper: Tempting Turquoise, Kiwi Kiss, Whisper White
ink: Archival Jet Black, Tempting Turquoise (SU! Marker), Green Galore (SU! Marker)
accessories: paper clips, circle punches, dimensionals

Challenge #8

Hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day!

For today's challenge, be inspired by a gift or card you received or gave for Mother's Day. You can even use something such as the ribbon, wrapping paper, or even a piece of the card. You can also use a photograph of the gift and use it as a thank you!

My kiddies know my Starbucks obsession and gave me a set of these AWESOME mugs and a gift card to Starbucks (thanks Daddy!) My DD attached a gift tag to the bag with the ribbon on the card (Go Gia!). Soooo, here is the card that was inspired by the mugs I got!

IT'S NOT TRASH...IT'S ART!!!

Welcome [friends] to the debut of Trashy Tuesday here at the ResQ Challenge! I’m so excited to be adding Trashy Tuesday our line-up and look forward to seeing the “trash” you create. If you ask my ResQ peeps who the “naughty” one of the group is, 10 to 1 they say, “Jacqueline”. So, leave it to me to stir things up a bit. My sense of humor can be a little off the wall at times (some may call it twisted or deviant) but let’s just say I just like to make people laugh. I laugh at myself for scrutinizing each piece of trash before I actually throw it away...afterall, I could maybe use it for something. That's how I came up with the idea for Trasy Tuesdays.

So, here’s what I’m thinking…Trashy Tuesdays will incorporate a trash related theme or item into the challenge each week. We may use actual trash, we might “talk trash”, or we may come up with something inspired by trash. The main point is to have fun and add a little humor to your Tuesdays. And remember, look at it as art, not trash!

For our first challenge use something that you would normally throw away without a second thought. In my example below I used the little container that Piper's (my Pomeranian) Frontline flea treatment comes in. As I was getting ready to throw it in the trash can, my hand suddenly jerked back before I actually let go of the little container. Now, it's a little vase instead.

That's your challenge this week...use your imagination and creativity and incorporate your own trashy twist to your card. Can't wait to see what y'all come up with.

recipe:
stamps: SU! Heartfelt Thanks
paper: garden green, tangerine tango, apricot appeal
ink: tangerine tango, apricot appeal
accessories: ribbon, dew drops, dimensionals, Cuttlebug Paisley embossing folder,
SU Top Note

Challenge #7 Freshly Cut....MEAT!

Happy May!

Today's challenge is brought to you by me.....Denise!

So, I don't know about you guys but I have been ITCHING for Summer! I don't even care about spring anymore, I just want summer! I love all things about summer but most of all I love to Barbeque! My hubby is a grilling connoisseur, he loves to try all new recipes and techniques. At the beginning of the summer we take a trip to the big fancy butcher shop and buy a bunch of FRESHLY CUT MEAT! We buy a whole filet mignon, some porter house steaks and even a few Aged T-Bone steaks!
*PS my apologies to any vegetarians out there!*

*Images courtesy of Windstorm Ranch...my these look delicious!

Ok, now that you are all drooling over your computers and saying,
"OK Denise what does this have to do with STAMPING????"

Well, one of things that shows a great, freshly cut piece of meat is "MARBLING"

marbling: (noun)

  • A mottling or streaking that resembles marble.
  • The process or operation of giving something the surface appearance of marble.
  • The decorative imitation of marble patterns printed on page edges and endpapers of books.
  • Flecks or thin strips of fat, especially when evenly distributed in a cut of meat.

  • So, for today's challenge, I want to see some MARBLING on your cards. There are several ways to do this...(and probably more you can think of that I haven't!) Links are given for tutorials here too...

    1. Shaving Cream technique (one of my FAVS!) to make a marbled looking background

    2. Faux Shaving Cream technique

    3. Polished Stone technique

    4. Ink, Spray and Smash technique can give a marbleized look too

    5. Use a marbled looking patterned paper (try basic grey...the solid colored ones)

    6. Magic Snowflake technique looked "marbeley" to me...

    7. Or get literal and actually use MARBLES...Rolling Marble Technique

Or whatever you can come up with!

    Here is my sample:

I used the regular shaving cream technique with pretty outrageous color combo...
pixie pink, wild wasabi and tempting turquoise!
A pretty simple card but I am loving how the BG came out!

recipe: stamps: Unity Mix up of Cuteness
paper: pixie pink, tempting turquoise, glossy white, PTI white
ink: tempting turquoise, pixie pink, wild wasabi reinkers and copic markers, Palette noir
accessories: ribbon, square rhinestones, chipboard tag

I'll be back later in the week to give this one another try...a little more complex card, I promise!

Remember, there are no time limits, vendor restrictions or other rules for the challenge. It's only for fun and inspiration.
